With only a few days to go before the Democratic primary, I spent the day out in the rain with volunteers from the Four Freedoms Democratic Club to support our endorsed candidates, including Sen. Liz Krueger and Attorney General candidate Zephyr Teachout.
There are a lot of great candidates in the race, but the Club decided to support Prof. Teachout when she won a slim margin over Public Advocate Letitia James for our endorsement in mid-July. This made us only the second Democratic Party organization in Manhattan to publicly back her, after the Three Parks Democratic Club on the Upper West Side. Since then I have been working to schedule some time with Prof. Teachout to do a joint campaign event with the Club's full slate of candidates, and after she similarly received the support of Sen. Liz Krueger and the New York Times for her long track record of anti-corruption work (sorely needed in Albany right now) we were able to make it happen.
Rounding out the ticket were Adam Roberts and Lauren Trapanotto, young activists with the Club running to represent the 76th AD on the State Democratic Committee. Lauren and Adam are running on an aggressive platform to straighten out the Committee and turn it into a tool for building up the Party in places where Democrats have typically struggled instead of a rubber stamp for the leadership. We're planning an aggressive push to have volunteers at the polls on September 13th supporting the whole progressive slate.
