Throughout June and the first few weeks of July you will see volunteers all over the neighborhood collecting signatures to get Democratic candidates on the ballot.
The State election law requires candidates and their campaigns to collect hundreds of signatures from registered members of their party in order to qualify for the ballot. The only exceptions are statewide candidates endorsed by the State Democratic Committee - an unfair practice that privileges establishment favorites that local activists are trying to change.
Volunteers from the Four Freedoms Democratic Club and I will be collecting for all of our endorsed candidates. If you see volunteers with green sheets out on the street or at the farmers' market, stop by and chat. It's a good way to learn about the candidates and what's going on in local politics these days.
