On Monday the Four Freedoms Democratic Club had its endorsement meeting for civil court judge, Democratic Party State Committee, and Delegate to the County Judicial Convention.
Two of the candidates recommended by the Independent Judicial Screening Panel, Darlene Bruce, esq. and Nicholas Moyne, esq., came to address the Club. Both Ms. Bruce and Mr. Moyne are eminently qualified and successful jurists. Ms. Bruce declined to run for the seat, instead endorsing Mr. Moyne's candidacy. The Club voted to endorse Mr. Moyne as well.
For Democratic Party State Committee, the Club heard from Ruth Halburg, Lauren Trapanotto, Patrick Bobilin, Jon Piel, and Adam Roberts. The State Committee acts as the "board of directors" of the State Party - overseeing its campaign budget, "fast-tracking" candidates for statewide office onto the ballot, and selecting New York's representatives to the DNC. Mr. Piel and Ms. Halburg are the incumbent State Committee members. Mr. Roberts and Ms. Trapanotto outlined an aggressive slate of reforms to the State Committee's practices, including those aimed at the lack of oversight of campaign spending, which would prevent money raised by the Party committee from being spent by incumbents against Democratic challengers without any oversight. The Club voted to support Mr. Roberts and Ms. Trapanotto.
And as delegates to the County Judicial Convention, the Club selected Jerry Ferguson, Susan Hochberg, Abbye Lawrence, John Bartos, Matt Lombardi, Steve Goldberg, Elana Schwartz as delegates, Bridget Cusick, Joan Roberts, Pierre Ratzki, Esther Yang, Nancy Lang, Frank Wilkinson, and Sheila Flaxman as alternates.
